Tapes: the video social network app for iPhone and iPad

Tapes is a mobile app that will act as a new home for your mobile videos. As of now, your videos live in the native “Photos” app scattered across grids and albums. Yet from our childhood we know, home videos reflect experiences that are continuous (hence, Tapes).

The app allows you to string together video clips you’ve taken into a library of “tapes”. You can think of a Tape as a linear version of a photo album — it can be played through continuously and can be added to indefinitely (i.e., a tape dedicated to a child growing up).

The cool thing is that unlike videotapes of 20-years ago, these live in the cloud and have social features. For example, you go on Spring Break with a group of friends. You can all record to a shared tape “in the cloud” to which you all contribute your own footage and “angle” of the trip. They are automatically ordered chronologically. The use cases are limitless — for example, think of a wedding where all the guests can contribute footage to a single wedding tape.
